Compassites On A Cause for Help

Compassites, through its COACH Program, understands and realizes the importance of creating innovative and proactive solutions to societal and environmental challenges, as well as collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to improve CSR performance.

COACH believes that, in caring and sharing to those deprived around us, it not just adds value to society, but subtly creates a wonderful and beautiful world to live in. COACH is one of the instruments through which Compassites strives to achieve its vision - To put a smile on the face of every stakeholder, by generating value for every association.

Compassites 6th COACH event

The recent COACH program at Compassites was another unforgettable event for all navigators. This time, the navigators took the children of Madilu to the planetarium and Bal Bhavan in Cubbon park. The children got a taste of visiting the solar system at the Nehru planetarium where there was a wonderful show depicting the various planets in space. It was an overwhelming experience for the children and the navigators, as they were admiring the children’s response to the awe-inspiring spectacle.

After star-gazing, the bus reached the Bal Bhavan in Cubbon park premises, where the group had lunch together. Post-lunch, the whole bunch was very excited as they were going to go for a toy train ride. They assembled at the “Bal Bhavan station” where there was a long photo shoot for which the navigators posed with the children. All were anxiously waiting for the Chuk-Chuk train to arrive. When the train arrived, it became a chartered train for the whole group as the train was only filled with the navigators with the children in their laps. There was a shout of joy as the train started. The train ambled throughout the park while the children gazed outside in sheer wonder. The navigators too could not conceal their joy as the enthusiasm of the little ones was infectious

Before leaving Bal Bhavan various games were organized for the children by the navigators. After a memorable day, the children were taken to the Bata shop where shoes were purchased for them. Everybody returned to the Madilu home and more goodies were distributed by the navigators. It was time for the navigators to say good-bye and the children and the navigators hugged each other before parting. But the parting was only physical as the navigators would always be in the hearts of the children for what they did for them.

Pune's COACH Program

When you think of innocence, what comes to your mind first? An image of an innocent smile of a child resurfaces, isn't it? The one that makes you forget all the worries, bringing joy and happiness. It's rightly said that children are the stars on earth with hopes and dreams all around them.

These tiny tots living in their own little world can mesmerize even the most malevolent ones. Innocence and carefree life is what everyone sees in them, and this is what they are bound to have in a normal environment with parents to dote upon them. So what happens when these innocent creatures of earth are devoid of parental love and care? Can't imagine anything more unfortunate than this.

So, we at Compassites in Pune decided to embark on a little mission with a very strong objective. Why not try to bring little bit of happiness to these tiny tots', and keep them away from thorny realities of life. Why not spend some time with them and make them feel that they too are cared-for?

After thoughtful discussions, it was decided that Circus would be the best thing for these little hearts to see, which we as children have seen by default. Niradhar Balsangopan Orphan Home, an orphanage located 13 KM from the office in Pune and located in a slum area, was chosen as it had less financial backing to take the children for such outings. On landing to the destination, we were moved to see about more than 60 little eyes looking at everyone with despair. Even the sight of their living condition would make anyone feel like lending a helping hand. Though not accompanied by deep pockets, the Coach program team entered here with bigger heart than the deepest of deeper pockets could reach

The news of Circus had already spread joy and it was so evident on their faces. Overjoyed kids sang and danced and ran towards the carriage that would take them to the Circus. The stunts of the circus men, the superhero dogs and the clowns fascinated the kids; but the food carried by the hawkers diverted their attention too. When one of us asked if they want something to eat, we were surprised to hear no. the reason they cited was that they don't have money to pay for it! We could see the helplessness on their faces. This was witness enough to the magnitude of damage that has been done to these innocent souls by being brought up as orphans.

Compassites 5th COACH event – Visit to Sri Sathya Sai Super Specialty Hospital

The 5th COACH event of Compassites was held at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences at Whitefield, Bangalore on June 6, 2007. The Sathya Sai Institute is a multi-specialty hospital providing high class medical care totally free of cost to needy patients from across the world.

The navigators loaded their bus with gifts and goodies and reached the hospital premises at 9 A.M in the morning. The hospital staff accorded us a warm welcome and the first item on the cards was a special magic show for the patients especially the children. Before the show began some navigators were seen getting dressed in costumes resembling different animals. The magic show was a big hit among the children, who filled the hall with thunderous applause.

After the fun event, the navigators divided themselves into groups and toured the different parts of the hospital. They spoke to the patients and comforted them with get-well-soon wishes. The children were given gifts which evoked a broad smile from their faces. The innocent smiles from the children’s’ faces in spite of their physical discomfort was very inspiring for the navigators.

After spending close to two hours with the patients, it was meal time. A simple but tasty lunch was arranged at the hospital canteen for the navigators. The unique feature of the 5th COACH event was that some of the Directors of Compassites also participated actively in the program. That made the occasion more memorable.

Finally before leaving, we donated blood. The hospital staff thanked the Compassites team for bringing cheer into the patients’ lives. We thanked them for providing us this opportunity to make the patients happy.

It was in the morning that we started our journey to the Madilu orphanage. Once we reached the venue, all the children were excited to see the navigators and soon they became friendly with us. The day started off with an invocation to the Almighty. The children sang with innocence and devotion.

Compassites spread its wings further to include another activity, seeking to satisfy another societal need--free healthcare. The second event was a free cataract eye camp which was conducted on Sep 24 and 25, at a village called Doddamarlwadi at a distance of about 60 kms from Bangalore. Compassites assisted a NGO-Rescue foundation, who were organizing this EYE Cataract Operation.
